Common questions
Does Microsoft back up my data?+
Not in the way most people assume. Microsoft keeps the service running and copies your data across its own datacentres for resilience — but that protects Microsoft against hardware failure, not you against mistakes. Their own customer agreement recommends using a third-party backup. If something is deleted and falls outside Microsoft's short retention window, it's gone for good. That's the gap this service closes.
What happens if an employee accidentally deletes files?+
With Microsoft's built-in retention you can usually recover a deleted file or email for a limited time — but once that window passes, or the item is permanently removed, Microsoft can't get it back.
